ABOUT US

The firm SACMAG an established A/E firm in Cuba was started in 1948 by Luis Saenz, then a professor at the University of Havana. Former pupil Ignacio Martin remembers Professor Saenz as a "tremendous teacher, a man full of life explaining engineering problems to the class." Mr. Martin and another former pupil, Edilberto Cancio, joined the firm, and in 1957 and architect named Enrique Gutierrez became the fourth partner. The firm's name SACMAG is an acronym of the first letters of the partners' names.

the pioneer years

the office inception in Puerto Rico

In the late 50s, SACMAG led by Eng. Luis Saenz opened an office in San Juan, Puerto Rico to work on projects for their high-profile client Barcardi.  Engineers Jose Luis Capacete and Ignacio Martin founded the firm in November l959, initially under the name SACMAG of Puerto Rico.

For six decades, Capacete Martín & Associates have fulfilled the commitment of the firm's founders: excellence in architectural and engineering services. That commitment is today manifested in the desire of our skillful team to continue and enhance a tradition that began 60 years ago.

the year 1989 marked our 30TH ANNIVERSARY AND THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ERA WITH A NEW NAME FOR CAPACETE MARTíN & ASSOCIATES. SINCE THAT YEAR WE ARE KNOWN BY OUR INITIALS: CMA

DESIGNING TODAY THE PUERTO RICO OF TOMORROW

We are a full-service architectural-engineering firm, organized into nine specialized departments, including architecture; civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, transportation,  environmental sciences, permitting, and project & construction management.

In the 1960s, CMA met the growing demand for highrise buildings, such as one of its early projects  - Palma Real in Miramar. In the 1970s, Puerto Rico underwent an industrial revolution, and the firm jumped full force into the construction of pharmaceutical-manufacturing operations. The company continued to focus on this sector as it reached its peak in the following decade. CMA had established itself in the area of infrastructure projects by the time the number of new manufacturing operations reached a plateau and began to slow in the 1990s. It successfully completed several highway and public transportation projects and had begun working on the Urban Train project when the world entered the new millennium.

since iTs inception, our multidisciplinary firm has evolved and diversified along with the island's changing economic conditions.

cma has helped build Puerto Rico

Designing a wide variety of projects, from industrial facilities to highways and bridges, to residential, educational, business, environmental and control systems, our team is proud of being part of a firm that grows and changes in harmony with changing times, while maintaining its unmistakable identity throughout.

leadership committed to quality service

"We know you don't make great architects and engineers overnight. We strive to develop the professionals who will continue CMA's legacy into the future"
