Roundabouts - Safe Intersections with flow

The conversion of intersections to roundabouts is one of the proven safety countermeasures promoted by the Federal Highway Administration in their Proven Safety Countermeasures memorandum of January 12, 2012, and adopted by the PRHTA in their 2014-2018 Puerto Rico Highway Safety Plan.

The intersection of PR-14 with PR-153 and PR-138 in Coamo, P.R. was one of the recently constructed projects designed by CMA included as part of the PRHTA initiative. The project consisted in the conversion of a previously existing four-legged signalized intersection into a separated right-turn roundabout to improve level of service, reduce delays and queues, and improve safety.
